Along with John Sillers, the ceremony’s speakers included Kathy Cripe, President of the HCHFH Board of Directors and the Reverend Kay Yates, Pastor of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, also a member of HCHFH Board of Directors. It was a memorable day for Pam Ulch and she expressed her appreciation, “Thank you to all who worked to build this house. Without you I could never have realized my dream to own my own home. Thank you does not come close to expressing how much I appreciate what you have done for my family and me.”  as well as hers.
Designated the “Building on the Dream” home, construction on the house on Orchard Way in Warner Robins began right after Dr. Martin Luther King Day in January. “Building on the Dream” honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by encouraging people to volunteer with their local Habitat for Humanity affiliate to build houses and raise awareness of the need for adequate housing in their communities. Dr. King dreamed of a world where all peoples and nations would triumph over poverty, racism, war and violence. Millard Fuller, founder of Habitat for Humanity, dreamed of a world where everyone, everywhere, lives in safe, decent and affordable housing. This house and “Building on the Dream” are destined to keep both visionaries’ dreams alive.

Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church was the affiliate’s co-sponsor to build the home and nearly 100 volunteers from across the community worked with Pam and her family to build the home.

Habitat for HumanityCritical to HCHFH’s success are local business sponsors and donors. These businesses donate materials and services either outright or at substantially reduced prices. These valued sponsors are: A1 Screen and Glass, Ace Electric, ACE Hardware, Perry, A-OK Portables, Armstrong Foundation, City of Warner Robins, Conklin Plumbing, Counter Tops and More, Dotty’s Window Designs, Ferguson Enterprises, Flint Energies, H& H Carpet, Keep Warner Robins Beautiful, Last Air and Electrical, Madison Drywall, Methodist Food Bank, Moore Concreting Co., Peachtree Pest Control, Publix Supermarket Charities, Robins Federal Credit Union, Safe Kids Inc, Storey Surveying, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, USA Gray Concrete, Wal-Mart Stores Foundation, and Warner Robins Supply.

Formed in 1991, this was the 38th house built by HCHFH who partners with families who live in substandard housing to build decent affordable homes. Using volunteer labor to build most of the house, the affiliate sells the house at no profit to the partner family who repays the affiliate through a no-interest mortgage. The affiliate escrows taxes and insurance fees and recycles the mortgage payments to build more homes.
